For S7-1200, Max No. of expansion module in S7-1200 rack depends on the CPU type itself.

• CPU 1211C: No expansion Modules.
• CPU 1212C: Max. 2
• CPU 1214C: Max. 8
• CPU 1215C: Max. 8

For S7-1500, No. of modules in S7-1500 rack: 32 modules (CPU + 31 modules).
