fast alarms between plc and hmi

The scan cycle of the hmi is at least 100 ms, while the scan cycle of the plc is between 10 and 20 ms. So any alarm happening in less than 100 ms will not be detected by the hmi. We have thousands of alarm messages, many of them are fast…

Kahl Platinum Member Joined: 12/16/2012 Last visit: 9/8/2025 Posts: 655 Rating: (132)	Hi! We use discrete alarms most of the time. When an event happens, an alarm bit is set in the PLC, which is also sent to the HMI. With an acknowlegment mechanism (auto or manual) the alarm bits are reset.

The alarm is set in the PLC itself and status, date and time is send to HMI. good luck, Jaap

We have thousands of alarm messages, many of them are fast… The HMI does not detect the alarms, it's the PLC. As Jaapiementioned correctly use the ALARM blocks to generate the alarms. Best Regards.

When an event happens, an alarm bit is set in the PLC, which is also sent to the HMI. With an acknowlegment mechanism (auto or manual) the alarm bits are reset. but if the ack is auto, ack could happen while an alarm is just coming up, and the alarm will be reset before sending it to the hmi. and is the ack is manual, it will take some time to ack hundreds of alarms.

The alarm is set in the PLC itself and status, date and time is send to HMI. good luck, Jaap i checked these blocks, they do all the alarm messaging job in the plc; but they don't look like they can save a fast alarm, to make it available for the hmi.

See the following links: Description and test project: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/24013249 A detailed description: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/841294 If you have doubt about the message numbering procedure with fast trigers, test it with PLCSim. (For example use the test project from the above page, set it up with PLCSim then Simulate a 1 shot to trig one of the prepared message and see if you get the message on the HMI runtime window.)
