at the moment I can not see a reason why this should not work. But i do not have any information regards the printer protocol.

Why do you think it is not possible? Do you have any information i am missing?

Which communication method (exactly protocol) does the printer model use? TCP/IP, you can use the OuC communication blocks like TCON/TSEND/TRCV e.g.
PROFINET is also supported from the S7-1200, as well as OPC UA.

this should not be caused by incompatibility. Does the printer have the same ip-address as another device in the subnet?
