It will work, but if you are going to spend good money on a firmware memory card, you may as well get one that will work for more devices.  I use a 24MB SMC - Simatic Memory Card (not SD card) for my S7-1200 firmware updates.

With current S7-1200 PLCs, you can update without a memory card.

Connect a PG/PC with TIA Portal installed and with the required S7-1200 firmware accessible, and you can go online using Online Access in the Portal project tree to access Online & diagnostics.  From there, you can update firmware.

Memory card works for more situations and is required for older S7-1200 Firmware (v1.x and v2.x).

But, to get your firmware updated today, you probably do not *need* the memory card.

Good day has anyone else have confirmation of using the 12MB SD card 6ES7954-8LE04-0AA0 to update firmware on the S7-1200 range.

newest Firmware are 10,5 MB as ZIP - if you unzip, you need at least 14,5MB...
