I want to implement Siemens controls to existing winery SS storage tanks (fermentation, treatment, filtered wine soaking tanks). Can you help me select those instruments used in this industry from your experience (I want to use the new technology)?

Here is my requirement:

1. Temperature control: only indication at each tank

2. Level control: I have motor driven pump without VFD (need to implement ON/OFF based on the level)

3. Flow control: Only indication (display) at each tank

4. Do I need also centralized station?

1. Temperature indication

As per your suggestion is part b. Electronic readout using an RTD as a temperature sensor, a thermowell, power supply, and a display (RD200 or RD300) is fine for my purpose.

But, I need signals like fault, alarm, machine running and operator raw material request. Do you think Siemens has other solution for this? As Siemens does not sell PD models, where can I get PD 765 for this application?

Can you also suggest which RTD model and display shall I choose?

2. Level Control

I really appreciate your suggestion. Both ultrasonic and radar are good for my application. Can you suggest any supplementary devices required for this from Siemens to do the function of the Precision Digital 6000-6R2 panel meter you mentioned? As for me, pump should stop to prevent dry run and should start to protect overflow as well.

3. Flow Control
Flow of what and where and how much?

The wine product is needed to pumped from fermentation, treated and filtered wine tanks with storage capacities of 100, 460 and 300 hl respectively each.

(I am planning to visit the plant but want to have some idea about the new technologies of Siemens)

Which flow meter specifically recommend for this industry, only for indication,  with an integral display for flow rate,and  with a flow totalizer? Is it possible to get one from Siemens?

4.  Centralized 'station'.

I will consider as an alternative option. As we can see from the requirements, there is no complex processes. Can you lastly suggest a PLC with HMI applicable for this?

If you are looking for a temperature sensor for an hygienic application (such as a wine tank) you could look at the TS300 sensor for example, temp. range of -30 to +300 C, outputs 4-20 mA, Profibus PA, HART or Foundation Fieldbus, depending on your choice of connections to your controller.
