Difference Between 1PH7 and 1PH8 Motors

casajr Posts: 153 Rating: (8)	Posted this on another thread - forgive me. I have an application where I can use either 1PH7 or 1PH8 motors as the ratings are the same. So what is the difference? The application is a saw blade drive. I need constant speed control from 20% to 150% base speed using vector control without an encoder. Drive will probably be a G120C or maybe a Mitsubishi F series. Before anyone says it won't work, either motor is simply an induction motor with a higher flux density. Any standard inverter can be tuned to work with them if the parameters are known. The question is simply what is the difference between the two?

Deleted User Posts: 767 Rating: (69)	Hello casajr, Performance wise in general, both 1PH7 and 1PH8 motors should be nearly identical in operation for an equal test of torque and speed requirements as long as they are within same ratings. For the 1PH7 motor rated 12 kW @ 1000 rpm specifically, it is lighter in weight than its newly designed counterpart in 1PH8 motor of same rating. 1PH7133-xxDxx-xxxx weight = 90 kg 1PH8133-xxDxx-xxxx weight = 106 kg Best Regards, Deputy

casajr Posts: 153 Rating: (8)	Thanks for replying. I saw the general marketing information already, I was hoping for something more specific. It appears that the PH7's can go faster and can have a higher overload. Inertia's look about the same. Weights are similar. Too many choices......

Generally 1PH8 should cover the whole 1PH7 series. Nevertheless some redesigns have been applied in order to improve behavior and performance. To make a choice easy I would recommend 1PH8 becauseof enhanced characteristics and longer availability / spare part service. I hope this may help you.
