Field PG M Cooling Fan stays ALWAYS ON when CPU temp is 40 degree

JY70 Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	We have 10 Laptops from Siemens Field PG M 6ES7712-1BB10-0AD4 in our company. 2 of then give an Cooling fan "problem". After about 4 hours on the cooling Fan stays Always On. This makes a lot of noise. The CPU is then ca. 4% and is Temperature is of Motherboard and CPU 42 degrees. And de cooling fan stay On, it looks like that the relay is stuck. Normaly the Cooling Fan goes On at CPU Temp 90 and OFF at 65 degree's. I have sent it already 3 times back tosiemensfor repare, but after about 3 weeks the problem start again. Does anyone know what is the Problem is and a good Solution. Jacob

I have same problem with same PG, unfortunately it looks like Siemens mistery to living it not commented. First you should check if the BIOS is the newest version. Watch it, the different PG's got different BIOS!

I have 6ES7 712-1BB10-0AG0 (Field PG M) Mech.ver.01 Grgb.ver.01 FW.ver.02 and my BIOS updated to ver. 060102 dated 2006-10-31. Vent lines I've cleaned with vacuum cleaner, and it seems not dirty above average inside. What could be the other reason I could check by myself ?

IBN-Service Posts: 8946 Rating: (999)	I have similar PG. The fan is "off" or will run with "low" or "high"speed. "high" speed if CPU temperature is approx. 90 degree. Even if the PG is idle, time by time the fan goes to low speed an after some time switch off again. You have installed the "Field PG Tool" to check CPU temperature?

I have made several test to determine the way how to make my PG fan runs continuously. And here is how I made it: Room temperature = 26 deg.C constant Place - flat woodden desk Temperatures measured using Field PG tool (CPU:temp (always as average) and MotherBoard(MB):temp): First startup: CPU:65 MB:45 After 1h of work: CPU:75 MB:56 -------------------------------- Until now fan always working with 2 speeds, 1st >80 deg.C 2nd>90 deg.C almost without histeresis or with very small one. Even if CPU working with heavy load (ex. virus scanner) fan always follows this regime, i.e. swithes off below 80 deg.C even at peak reaches CPU:98 MB:57. Then I made reboot/restart of the system. -------------------------------- First restart: CPU:108 MB:57 -------------------------------- Here fan starts from beginning on high speed and didn't switches off even temp drops to: -------------------------------- After 10 min: CPU:49 MB:44 -------------------------------- Then I decided to redo the restart. Amazingly, during restart fan didn't stopped ! And after boot situation didn't changed: -------------------------------- Second restart: CPU:85 MB:46 After 10 min: CPU:49 MB:44 -------------------------------- I let my PG run for at least 30 min with fan on. Only after shut-down with immediate startup, situation returns to normal on/off operation (!) i.e. finally quiet mode. Conclusions: 1. Despite of what you says in german forum thread#222646, fan cannot be controlled within BIOS, because restart re-run BIOS as well. 2. Problem didn't dissapear even with newest BIOS 3. There is no histeresis on fan control 4. Fan control need to have a tuning possibility 5. CPU temperature is taken from core, because drops/rises very fast, even 30 deg.C within 2 seconds (!) therefore it is not good to predict further load 6. There are only 3 fan speeds during when any other Pentium IV M laptops has more steps (and less irritating fan as well) Have anybody idea: 1. How to resolve problem at all ? 2. How to open hidden options in Phoenix BIOS to change fan temp limits (if there are) ? 3. Have anybody seen same situation like I did ?
