How to get the drive to communicate with the PLC

vabis Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hey everyone... Ive have been searching for a manual or something that could explain how the PLC and the drive communicates. Im using a S7-300 series PLC and a CU240E-2 PN drive. Im using TIA v13 so its quite eas to set up the network and so on. But im wondering how exactly the PLC and drive talk together. Im currently using a program from a former project. In this program, the programmer are using subroutines to run the motors, and a special subroutine with a motor subroutine with in it to run the drive.( I hope om making my self clear ). In this program the "Start Address" and "Actual Value" in the parameters, are set to I 600 and Q 600. From what I understand these two numbers are where the data are stored onthe PLC.Because in the subroutine for the drive,a tag named FirstHardwareInput and FirstHardwareOuput is set tothe number 600. When I look inside this subroutine, the FirstHardwareInputis using the 600 plus 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. The reason with the numbers is because it is set to use 6 WORDs in a Free Telegram. The Output however is just using the 600 +2 and 4 since it is setpoint and so on. This I understand aswell, so what I do not understand is, how does the PLC know that when i enter the 600, that this number tells where to look for data from the drive. Becuase I would have guessed that there would be a tag or something in the tag list that defined the I 600 and Q 600. Ive have been searching around for something that could tell me this but it turned out difficult or my search skills aren't what they used to be :) I've got both the manual for the CU240E from2011 and theupdatedversionfrom 04/2014 butI dont seem to findwhat imlooking for.... I hope some one can help me.

On the HWCN object for the drive you configure a Telegram Slot and here you can configure the I/O address with which the PLC communicate with the drive (600 in you case). Regards Christoph

vabis Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hey CristophD. That I do know :) What I dont know is the connection between 600-area in the PLC that the drive is writing/reading from. I mean, what is theconnection og the 600 as a number in the ladder program and the 600 area that is available and set as a partner to the PZD? The FirstHardwareInput is set to 600, and within the subroutine it handles the 600 and 600 + 2, 4,6 , 8 and 10. But I can't see anywhere that the 600 as a number, alsois refering to the 600 as an area where the PLC is handling the data from the drive.... And that is what bothers me... Im quite new at PLC's so plz be kind to me :) Ib

ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 9/15/2025 Posts: 22710 Rating: (3071)	Hello, the number 600 is in the PLC Adress map defined as communication adress with the drive , this is configured in HWConfig. You can use any other adress (500, 256 etc.) the only thing is that you refer this adress in your program logic. This a internal build in in the PLC, each address range you configure in HWCN is in the internal Adress map of the plc. Regards Christoph

ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 9/15/2025 Posts: 22710 Rating: (3071)	Hi, you don't use the number 600 directly ;) if you use a FB like FB283 or SFC15/SFC14 then the 600 is a specific input parameter which is interpreted as a I/O adress für the FB/SFC. If you use the 600 in arimethric operation it is only a the number 600 not the adress 600 ;) To access the addess directly in a program , an not the number, you must write PE600. Regards Christoph

Thereare a lot of examples regarding the setup and use ofdrives, but they are all using the "Starter" software and the newest one if from August 2014. Our local Siemens dealer said we didnt have to use the starter software since the TIA portal can do it without it. But there is still no samples on their web page. Best regards

Yes, you do need the addon in TIA, but all the samples on siemens webpage are with the stand-alone STARTER
