All,

It has been a couple of months since I had to make a change to a WinCC Flexible 2008 SP3 project installed on a Windows 7 laptop.  I made the necessary changes on the Step 7 side and wanted to incorporate a couple of the new variables I created into WinCC.  However, anytime I attempt to add a new tag into WinCC Flexible I receive the following error:

"Warning:  The Symbol Server has encountered a problem on "GetChilds: ". Please save your changes, close WinCC flexible and open your project again."

I attempted the same thing with other Integrated WinCC Flexible projects and all observe the same behavior mentioned above.  I uninstalled WinCC Flexible and reinstalled and the problem persists.

I am wondering if I installed a program or Windows update that is wreaking havoc with this application.  Everything else associated with WinCC  Flexible appears to behaving as expected.

Thanks for your response.  I did try resetting my WinCC Flexible installation back to default which did not resolve my issue unfortunately.  I actually uninstalled  and reinstalled SQL and WinCC Flexible twice without success.  I also tried re-integrating Flex into Step 7 which didnt resolve my issue either.  I needed to make edits sooner than later and fortunately I imaged my laptop when I initially set it up so I ended up restoring the laptop back to my initial state.

de installed  winccflex2008sp5 and reinstalled it and the same problem

tried the reintegration with no succes

Am using wincc flex 2008 sp5 UPD2

at this moment I have this problem on my field pg M4 and M5

and since yesterday also on my desktop pc where I installed TIA V17  yesterday

I have de installed TIA V17 but problem is still there

de installed s7 V5.6 and winccflex2008SP5  and reinstalling problem still there 

winccflex cannot acces the symbol server when adding a tag

It is becoming very annoying  ...

am I the only one who has that problem ?

I can confirm hoggar's behavior.

On new Windows 10 machine with WCF2008 SP5 UPD2 the tag binding works fine.
After installation of TIA V17 Adv. the error message "Warning:  Der Symbolserver hat an "GetChilds: " ein Problem erkannt. Speichern Sie Ihre Änderungen, schließen Sie WinCC flexible und öffnen Sie Ihr Projekt erneut." appears.

Got this information from Siemens.

COM class objects are faulty due to the parallel installation of TIA Portal and WinCC flexible.

Steps to fix the issue:

Running command prompt as Administrator

1. Start command line with admin rights and enter the following lines:

2. cd C:\Windows\sysWOW64

3. regsvr32 Melbreg.dll
