Introduction av pledge in the same post! Bear with me, and if you don't want to read the long boring non-prerequisite just skip to the part below the line.

Our family run a small business within energy production. A collaborator who runs a "sister company" who does the mechanical portion of the business just threw this "project" in my lap.

He got help from someone else to create a very rudimentary PLC program for a small hydroplant in which only dam water level and basically RPM of the turbine is measured. Along with this the program allows for starts, stops and adjustment of power outtake up and down. I'm not sure who this someone else is, or why he doesn't finish it, but thats irrelevant right now. We're probably gonna have to start all over.

Now, the thing is that I know very little about PLC-programming. I haven't worked with this since 1999 when I did a small course on Mitsubishi FX-systems. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about PCs and that stuff though, and took a gander at this with pretty good confidence. But after 3 days of reading and working with it the result is just confusion, denial and rage. I'm just about to purge the TIA installation and burn the DVDs in a ritual manner along with the PLC, the HMI and all the ethernet cables....

The kit is a standard starter kit containing Logo!, KTP400 and the software. Should be fairly easy to get started with, but I can't get these to units to play ball.

I need a tutorial on a kids level starting from absolute zero up to the point where the Logo! and the KTP400 communicates at some degree.

So, are there anyone willing to help a total helpless fellow out with these you would assume basic steps? Or at least explain to a less knowledgeable person why they sell PLC-kits with software obviously not fully compatible with the hardware or existing tutorials?

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance you can offer. :) Also, sorry for the lengthy post with much irrelevant info. Won't be a habit, I promise.

Since you did not write which LOGO you have exactly (order number of the LOGO!, not the kit), which version of LOGO!Soft Comfort and which version of the TIA software, I unfortunately cannot create an example for you.

Not much is necessary to create the pure connection between the LOGO and the HMI. To do this, you only have to create a connection in TIA for the HMI. No connection needs to be created on the LOGO! side.

Thank you for your sincere reply. I guess you're right about me overestimating this forum and its purpose, also its all written in total frustration. What I cant wrap my head around is the lack of straight forward documentation(my opinion). The kit is this one:

LOGO! 8 12 /24RCE + KTP400 Basic Starter Kit

The kit is not as accessible for the layman as you might expect, again my opinion. But to use an analog; when you buy a car, a tractor, even a mobile crane its not expected that you create your own key fob in order to start it, nor if you buy a starter kit for gardening tomatoes its not expected that you know everything about how to nourish and water them already. Hence the term 'Starter kit'. Siemens missed the mark by a whole continent here. But again my personal opinion. I'll ask a couple of guys at work for help, I was just hoping for a quick fix for what should be a non-existing issue.

The forum would like to help you, but it can't convey a wide range of knowledge in one or two posts.

 @ixo65: Would there be a sample project posted by Siemens that can stand in as an example? Something that makes use of the hardware in the specific starter kit; linking Logo! and KTP400?
