I've been going through the Openness documentations and looking at the samples. It's a powerful tool, i'd say a little beyond my 25+ yrs since programming C/C++ and VS.

I have an FC that I need to export, modify and expand to many and import about 100 back in to an S7-1500 project. With other vendors of software, this is already easy. But I'm struggling with TIA.

I have TIA Portal v18 installed and I have confirmed that Openness v18 is also installed, I have installed Visual Studio Community 2022.

I can open Openess samples from the support section (versions from v15, v16 and v17) and dig through them, but I can't execute them as I do not have those versions installed.

Now looking in my registry, I do see entries of Openness of those versions.

Is there a version switch that's typical that I can't seem to locate from the manuals?

Or is there an Openness application that would provide the basic functionality of just exporting an FB/FC to XML and then simply import it?

Yes, I did have that downloaded, but it was labelled as v17, and with the other version hooks I was having with the samples from the library, I didn't install it to check it out.

But I just did (because I couldn't find a v18) and the v17 does have v18 capabilities, so I will start going though that documentation in the morning.

Using that scripter is handy. I am able to export program and data blocks, edit the XMLs and re-import, this will save me days. Though as simple as this is, I don't understand why something like a block import/export isn't included within TIA.

I'm trying to import FB/FC into TIA Portal v17 project from exported XML files from TIA Portal v18, but so far I've been unable to accomplish it. I used your model script and changed "V18" to "V17" text in the XML files, but still getting the following error:

"Error when calling method 'Import' of type 'Siemens.Engineering.SW.Blocks.PlcBlockComposition'. The 'Namespace' attribute at the 'SW.Blocks.FB' object at line number 34 at line position 4 with Simatic ML ID 0 is not supported"

Have you encountered the same problem? And if so, how you fixed it?

Hi,

the xml export format (SIMATIC ML) is TIA Portal version specific and cannot be simply exported e.g. in TIA Portal V18 and imported in an older version e.g. TIA Portal V17.
You need to remove all new feature from TIA Portal and adapt the namespace accordingly.

I would recommend to export a simple block with TIA Portal V17 and compare xml file with a block exported in TIA Portal V18.
This will quickly show the things you need to adapt.
