Simatic 545 compatibility

ry_fern Posts: 32 Rating: (0)	Hi Guys, Good day! I'm back again.This time I'm working with an Simatic 545.This is completely my first time working with 545. The client wants to communicate it with Wonderware SCADA via Ethernet. I already found the Kepware driver to make them talk to each other. The PLC already has one ethernet module installed. I haven't seen it except on pictures. My questions are: 1. Can the 545 PLC accept two ethernet modules? specificaly, 2572-A? 2. If the answer to question 1 is a NO, can the 545 existing ethernet handle two SCADA communication? because right now it is already connected to a Local LAN and the client wants to have a SCADA in a remote station. They'll be using AT&T as sevice provider. 3. Is 2572-A compatible with Simatic 545 series? 4. I have TIsoft version 7 and working on it now. If the loaded program was configured using softshop, can I upload it using TIsoft? Thank you very much. Hope some experts answer my questions. Regards, ry_fern

Yes the 545 PLC can accept 2 2572-A modules. i believe you can go upto 8 Special Function modules. 2.Is the existing Ethernet also 2572-A ? The 2572-A can handle up to 16 concurrent TCP connections using the CAMP protocol, which is the one you are going to use to communicate with the Kepware OPC server. Remember however that you can only assign one unique IP address to the 2572-A card. If you are going to connect to 2 separate networks, it may be preferable to use 2 separate 2572-A cards. 3. Yes it is. Be carefull with very old 545 CPU's like 545-1101 or 545-1102. They have some limitations bit it should still work. For most recent information about 2572-A go to: http://www.controltechnology.com/products/2572-a/ 4. Yes you will be able to upload the program using Tisoft. But you will loose the program documentation stored in the Softshop file. Based on the pictures, I have found out that the installed ethernet module is Simatic 505-CP2572. will the CTI 2572-A module work with it? or I will I pick the same module? CTI-2572 has better features. From the manuals I can't a written provision if both of them will work. Also, the existing Simatic505 has one Remote base controller. I plan to install the ethernet module on the remote base. From my experience with S7, I can install the ethernet module in the remote IO that but I' not sure with 505 PLC. Regards, ry_fern

The CTI 2572-A is a more recent version, it has an 100 Mb/s ethernet port as opposed to 10 Mb/s on the 2572. You can combine the 505-CP2572 and CTI 2572 / 2572-A in the same PLC. if you are going to work with the Kepware OPC server i would recommend the 2572-A. You can install the 2572 and 2572-A in a remote base, but it will have some impact on performances. For best throuhgput you should try to install it in the local base with the CPU. Regards, Carlo
