If this is a brand new project, my recommendation is to uninstall update 5, reinstall update 4, or perform a repair of update 4 if it says it's already installed.

Then try again.  If the issue remains, uninstall update 4 and try update 3 repair and see what happens.

At some point, you should find an update that should be able to open TIA Portal and add a device to a new project.

If this is an existing project, try adding a device to a brand new project and see if the problem remains.

Hello

An error shows during installation of TIA Portal V15.1 Update 5 on Windows 10. I attach log file with description of error. After installation it is possible to open TIA Portal, but it crashes when I try to add new device to the project.

I've disabled anti-virus and firewall software. Any more suggestions?

BTW, I had to move installation files to c:\TIA folder from default folder, because VC Redistributable couldn't install from default folder (probably path was too long).

In that case, what windows operating system, build #, and does V15.1 update 5 support it?

From the log file, only 1 piece of the entire Portal install failed.  Is it possible a restart and attempt at repairing the install might work?

What other installed software or I.T. restrictions may exist which could prevent installation using a local admin account?

Maybe I didn't express problem very well.

I am installing TIA Portal V15.1 trial version, which includes updates up to 5. I am not installing just the update itself. So, the TIA Portal was never working, it is clean install.

Now that V15.1 is installed with the latest update(?), you might consider creating a windows restore point, update windows build to latest, and see if TIA Portal still runs properly, at least for your needs.  I say that because there may be very specific uses that would not work for latest windows build, but you may not care about it, like TIA Openness, Multiuser, Project Server, TIA Admin, or other supporting software.

I am not suggesting any of these are not important.  Just that some of them may not be important for your needs.

The operating system was latest build of Windows 10. Actually it wasn't supported by V15.1. I switched to older version of Windows and TIA installed properly. I hoped that TIA is more robust, now I know I have to be very careful with Windows updates.

Anyway, thank you for your help. Your suggestion pointed me to right direction.
