Double the amount of RAM available in the computer or virtual machine running TIA Portal.

Or, as an option, break off entire sections of the project into new projects.

You can disable "Search in project" (Options -> Settings -> General -> Search in project).

Is there a way to disable cross reference in TIA ?

I press a DB tag in any editor (FBD/STL/ etc...) and get an interaction delay of 4-6 sec. TIA freezes for this time. That always occurs in a big project and I guess that is due to building cross reference in a window below.. Is there a way to disable it ?

Is there like Windows-registry for TIA ?

Everything installed on a local drive (not a USB or network drive)?

Is your PC connected to the PLC online while changes are being made?  Consider going offline to make changes and see if that changes anything.

Consider increasing the task priority of the TIA Portal software from Normal to Above Normal (using Task Manager).

Consider breaking up DBs that touch many blocks into smaller pieces, and using UDTs to group DB tags according to your big project needs, hopefully in ways that minimize how many blocks access tags within UDTs.

Consider creating helper FBs to manage UDT data to group data access to a single block so when changes are required, only the UDT / DB and FB/iDB are changes, which greatly reduces cross referencing and also helps reduce PLC stops for routine updates.

It looks like I may create a much bigger program, now I occupy only half of the possible code work memory. And I will have more interaction delay and TIA issues in this case.
