et200m is designed for S7-300 i/O modules

ET200S have his iwn i/O modules with a much mir little formfactor.

ET200M -> only I/O distributed system PN/DP to S7-300 PLC with S7-300 modules, no own CPU.

ET200S -> big full distributed system, own CPU types available (CPU is S7-300 type internally), distributed I/O modules PN/DP. Now looks like old system but still frequently used.

Practically ET200S distributed systems can be also used on S7-300. If you check basic both system documentations you can easy see possibilities of both systems.

More Simply, ET200M is a modular I/O that needs a S-300 PLC to be integrated while ET200S is a Standalone PLC with I/O interface integrated. :)

 not exactly, not integrated only. Standalone PLC also not only. Simply with f.ex. ET200S PN Slave module you don't need ET200S CPU module exactly, it is same as ET200M PN system, simply it can be functional only with higher Master system that has CPU S7-300 or also ET200S CPU, in some cases also S7-1200 with required interface as ET200S Slave module has.
