HELP wint WinCC. Which version should I get?

josealjim Posts: 12 Rating: (1)	Hello there, Firstly I would to thank you all for the work you are doing in here. The company im working for wants to acquire the new STEP 7 TIA portal v12 and The WinCC. The STEP 7 is gonna be the professional one for its options to also work with S7-300. The problem comes with the right WinCC version. - We will do the scada to be runned in one single station. I have read that both the advanced and professional version can perform the scada for a single station. So i was thinking about the Advance version. - Do they both (engineering package) come with runtime? could we operate the plant without buying the runtime package?. In the quotation they sent me, the professional runtime 512 power tags is more expensive than the design Software so if we can operate the plant without buying any runtime, just with the engineering software, it would be great. - The company is starting to do its automation designs, therefore What do you think about Siemens technical support? I have read on the website that they also do the commissioning, any opinion about these services? Best Regards and Thank you in advance, José

Darius Platinum Expert Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 7/24/2025 Posts: 2957 Rating: (243)	Hi, Don't mix two things: WinCC Advanced is HMI software with PC runtime possibility and WinCC Professional is full featured SCADA system. If you want both - be able to develop and run runtime then you need engineering station license for WinCC Advanced and developement license for WinCC Professional. In that case you can use runtime as well. If you need only runtime (for example some external company will do the developement) then go for runtime only license. It will be cheaper.

josealjim Posts: 12 Rating: (1)	Thank you Darius for your answer, "engineering station license for WinCC Advanced"? you mean with that WinCC Advance Runtime? in terms of operating a plant what is the difference (when u are going to use only one station) betwenn advance and professional? I mean the Advance can be mainly a HMI software but if meets with our requirements and it is cheaper...? We will do the development, but I dont know which WinCC version we should buy and which Runtime we should offer, that is the main doubt. The quotation they sent me was: - STEP7 professional v12 =aaa € - WinCC professional v12, 512 power tags = bbb € - WinCC professional runtime 512 power tags = ccc € Sorry for my ingorance but I thought that if it has 512 power tags it could run the runtime (like the runtime package) and also the design. So why should I offer to ourclients the runtime professional when its xxx € more expensive? There should be a reason.... Im missing something, id be greatful if any of u explain me that What about the WinCC advance? im sure its gonna be much cheaper I really apreciate your help, best regards

G74x Posts: 47 Rating: (4)	Maybe you are a bit confuse about WinCC for TIA. I attach a picture (in spanish) you can see where can use the different versions of WinCC TIA that exists. Abstract: When you buy WinCC Advanced V12, you'll able to configure all panels that Siemens sells (well not the old ones). But you can't configure new projects of SCADA. Thats why WinCC Professional V12 exists. With this version you'll be able to configure all panels and also make project for SCADA. The reason why they offer - WinCC professional v12, 512 power tags = bbb € is because you need license for CS (configuration), in other words, how many tags you'll be able to include in your SCADA project and then - WinCC professional runtime 512 power tags = ccc € because Runtime must have it (for SCADA) or you wont be able to communicate with any PLC. So in this case you buy development and runtime. Like Darius said, If someone make your application you dont need WinCC Professional V12 (CS), you just need WinCC Professional Runtime V12, it would be cheaper, but if one day you want to make modifications in your applications you need to call someone to make that work. Sometimes you make application so big that need so much resources that instead of run in a panel you need to run it in a PC Panel or some times in a PG for this you only need WinCC Advance Runtime license. When you buy ej. a Comfort panel it already have a license of runtime (thats why it is expensive), but its different with PC Panels you have the option to buy it with license or not. Imagine that you have PC Panel with an application and some day display stop working. So you need to buy a new one, in this case the better option is to retrieve license from it SSD and you only have to buy PC panel without license (saving some bucks). At the end you will see that Advanced its cheaper because its only for development not for Runtime. Hope this help Regards Attachment WinCC_TIA.jpg (519 Downloads)

josealjim Posts: 12 Rating: (1)	THANK YOU ALL and specially you G74x. The company sells biogas plants whose automation doesnt require a big application to operate. So we will include into the quotation to our clients only the runtime and if in future they want to expand the app we will offer them the service again. Actually the visualization program is not too dificult it could be done for a panel but they want a PC, to print out reports, data logging, etc so I think with WinCC Advance and Advance runtime on the client´s PC is gonna be enough. Anyway there is always the possibility to upgrade. Best Regards
