CAPCITOR VALUE AT 525V

jeet2907 Posts: 235 Rating: (52)	Dear All, Someday ago i was made a thyristor base RTPFC panel of 325kvar. in which i used 415V FUSE, 440V THYRISTOR,480V FILTER and 525V CAPACITOR. But when i was sent dreawing to vendor for approval,they replied that as per capacitor voltage rating of 525V and due to available votage(supply) at our site is 415V,we require 525KVAr capcitor to match our actual requirement of 325KVAr. So now my question is that what is the relation between voltage and kvar interms of above detailed.Please provide calcultion for the same if it is applicable for it. I am also asking for the same to my vendor nut the didnt provided. So pls help me....... Thanks n Regards

PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello, I would recomend you to use capacitors of rated voltage 415 or 440 volt so as to get desired effective KVAR of 500. Also please pay attention to the selection of fuse links. I suspect those are overrated than the actual requirement. HTH.

Dear expert thanx for the reply again,but i cant use capacitor of rated voltage 415 or 440 volt bcoz i am using reactor(7% detuned reactor) with the same,actualy i dont know why if we have to use reator voltage is 440 volt then we must use capacitor with 480 volt or 525 volt.But my sir recomded to me its a standsard practice for the same. And i am also asking ot my vendor for my first question the directly reply to me that client is correct and you must use 525KVAr capcitor to match our actual requirement of 325KVAr. So i want know exect reason behind it and also the calculation for the same. waiting for your reply.

PISCEAN 2010 Posts: 8092 Rating: (884)	Hello, Here reactors are used to eliminate line distortions caused because of switching capacitors. In market you will find reactors suitable for capacitors rated supply voltage. Since thyristors are used so switching at zero degree is also possible, so no need to over rate the capacitor voltage. HTH.
