jon_masheen Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	When I have added a IM153-2 (6ES7 153-2ba02-0xb0) to a remote rack does it allocated 3 slots to the the IM153-2, so the IO starts at slot 4. Why does it allocate the 3 slots?

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	S7-300 IO modules always start at 4th slot. You can check that - simply take CPU + 1 SM module.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/16/2026 Posts: 12481 Rating: (2722)	Hello jon; In the S7-300 series (and the ET 200M is considered part of that selection), logical slots 1 to 3 are reserved: -slot 1 for the power supply; -slot 2 for the CPU; -slot 3 for the Interface Module (IM 360 for example) for expansion racks if you have more than 8 modules. Slots 4 to 11 are available for Signal modules, communication processors or function modules in any combination. I mentionned logical slots because physically you could install your first SM next to the CPU, if you do not need an interface module. But in your hardware configuration that SM would still be placed in Slot 4. This rule does not apply to te S7-400 models. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
