S7/300 Ethernet Port

delgado Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi everyone, Please picture this scenario, multiple PLCs interconnected and talking over an industrial Ethernet network. The PLCs are Siemens S7/300 series which I haven't found much information about the Ethernet port they carry. My impression from previous project is that each vendor features its own protocol over the communication media and there is no such thing as a plain TCP/IP connection between equipments or manufactures (unless you use an OPC server running multiple services to talk to each one). Can anyone bring some light in which communication functionality siemens PLCs provide over the Ethernet port? (i.e. only Profibus?) Best Regards. Delgado

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear delagdo, well if we just talk about the Ethernet Interfaces of the CPU 31X PN we can say the following: The CPU Interface supports: TCP Protocol (Standard) UDP Protocol (Standard) ISO on TCP Protocol (RFC 1006) (in preparation) PROFINET IO / CBA S7-Protocol (Siemens) The Standard Protocols can be used with any Socket Interface. Ethernet-IP is proprietary and does not work with Siemens Devices. Best regards J_Bell

delgado Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	I'm talking about the SIEMENS CPU314C-2DP and the Ethernet port that comes embedded on it. the final goal is to integrate two or more PLCs in a Industrial Ethernet network, sharing the same network with other computers, printers, etc. more specificaly which protocols can I use with that ethernet port embedded in the Siemens CPU314C-2DP Please find attachement with the architecture sketch, not necessary correct but the main idea is there. The only Ethernet capable Controllers are: CPU 315-2 PN/DP CPU 317-3 PN/DP CPU 319 PN/DP The only way to get an Ethernet Interface to a CPU 314 of any kind is to put a CP into theRack. So this is the different Story I was talking about. If you use a CP you have the following Protocols you can use: ISO Industrial Ethernet (Standard) / depending on the used CP TCP Protocol (Standard) UDP Protocol(Standard) ISO on TCPProtocol(RFC 1006) S7 Protocol(Siemens) Server / Client depending on the usedCP I hope these information's could help you.
