S7-300 and 400 modbus communication

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi guys! I've got a configuration where a specific energy analyser needs to communicate with S7-300 and S7-400 through TCP/IP. The analyser communicates through modbus, so this modbus information will be sent in TCP/IP. I don't have the equipment yet, 'cause we still need to figure out wether that would work or not. Has anyone done similar things before? Would S7 recognizethe data format, and how? We're kinda lost on this one, and as I said, the manufacturer hasn't done it before, and they only claim S7 will "probably" recognize their data... [:o] Any help is very much welcome! How can you establish OPEN MODBUS / TCP communication via the CP343-1 or CP443-1 and where can you find further information? If this is working is only to say if the functioncode that is possible with this driver is also possible with the system you want to couple.... [:o]

We're actually trying to find an alternative solution, since there are no guarantees for this one... we've even considered using a S7-200 to convert the mopdbus data to ethernet, but the problem is the S7-200 would only write on the ethernet network, not being able to collect data (we need to collect analog data for the modbus network). [:(] Our configuration was getting so complex that we decided to get a configuration from another supplier. [;)]Hope this one finds us an option with less trouble! [:P] Best regards, Danielle

[:(] We had found in the manual that the 226 CPU is able to read and write in TCP/IP, so with the freeport we'd receive data in modbus and send it in through the ethernet CP 243. We don't want to communicate through modbus on the S7-300 and 400 in that network because the modbus information needs to be sent to several S7-300 and 400, and to do that we'd have to have CP's in all of them. If we converted all the data in a single S7-400, for instance, all the other CPU's would lose the modbus data whenever that particular CPU was set in stop mode.

Calm_down Posts: 324 Rating: (30)	Hi Danielle, if you use the S7-200 as Modbus Slave and the Ethernetinterface of the CP 243-1 as S7 Server you will be able to solve this.... I think this would be the best solution... you are right. stay calm. [;)]
