Run to drives with one VFD

jagdish bhavani Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	HI, I am havingpump with motorof having rated capacity 30 kW. To save power we want to provide VFD. My point is can i run two drives with one VFD. Here always one pump will be running and one will be standby (Stop condition) except during pump change over when i need to run both drives for small period of time say 5 min. Is it possible to provide only one VSD and run either of drives? The point is power saving is less and we want to reduce capital cost by providing one VFD.

Hello jagdish bhavani, you will definitely need two VFD, as you have to run both at switchover. Also be aware, that any VFD has to be adjusted to your pump motor. So if the two pump motors are not identical, you would need different parameters in your VFD anyways and thus two VFD again. If you want to save costs, you could equippe only one pump with VFD and normally use this pump. Other pump would be without VFD and only be standby or used when first pump has problems. But using both pumps with same VFD is not possible in your case. regards

Hello jagdish bhavani, Take a look this thread: two motors one inverter IBN wrote: Just take care, that you do an interlock between both contactors, so that just one is energized at the same time.

Hello jagdish bhavani, basically it is possible to run two motors with one VSD, but normally only one at a time. In your case at switchover you need to run both pumps at same time for about 5 mins as you state. So if you have one pump driven by VSD, at switchover you would have to drive second pump parallel - that would double your load and need a different parameter set on VSD exactly at time of adding additional load. And that is not even considering that internal load of bothmotors will not be exactly the same. regards
