Access is invalid, s7-1200, 604:4542

I'm fairly new to this programming game, and I'm finding it very fun so far. 

As an automatician, this has been something that I have been missing, to fully comprehend automation systems. 

Now onwards to my challenge.

I'm using a S7-1214C CPU, currently working on my motor controll FB. 

I've made a PLC data type, called  HMI_Motor, that I intend to use for my faceplates in the HMI. 

When I add parameters, such as inputs, outputs etc for the FB, everything works when I use drag and drop from the list (cannot rember name of it) above the block interface page. But when I finnaly drag the HMI_Motor TAG into the block interface, it turns red, and gives the error "Access is invalid. User manual gives me the code 604:4542 and the following text:

Description

The structured data in the InOut area of an instance DB is stored there only as a reference (48-bit POINTER). Global access to its components is not possible.
You have possibly also attempted to access a data element of a technology object in a multi-instance or in an instance DB.
This type of access is not possible.

Examples of non-permitted access:

<DB1_IDB1>.<InOut String, Struct..> <#Multiinstance>.TO_Axis_PTO.Config.Mechanics.LeadScrew <DB1_IDB1>.TO_Axis_PTO.Config.Mechanics.LeadScrew

Remedy

Check the DB names and components.

I've had a look at the DB names and components, but I'm not sure what to look for in order to correct my mistake.

What is #PU01? Is it an instance, or multi instance, or global data block? 

Hi again and thank you for the swift replies. 

I figured it out after some of your pointers. 

I was in fact using a multi instance for the main part of this block, which is within an FB called "pump control" and then the motor controller FB is called within that FB again. 

When I added the parameters for the HMI data, this should have been routed to a global DB, that I have now created and it is no longer giving me any errors. 

a few more hours of tweeking and I can upload this to the PLC and finnaly begin testing my first real project.
