I have just received a new HP Elitebook 850 computer at work, running Win 10 Pro and Vmware workstation 12.5.9. The guest operation system is a Win 7 Pro running TIA V14 SP1 Upd 5.

When i use vmware in bridgemode and go online on my PLC, TIA loses the connection to the PLC after 30 sec or so. After the connection is lost, i can go online on the PLC again, but loses connection after 30 sec and so on.

I can ping the PLC continuously, so the connection is there. If i use NAT there is no problem and TIA can remain online all the time.

I did not have this problem, on my old laptop, a HP Zbook 15 from 2013, or any other laptops running either Win 10 or Win 7.

My co-workers has the same problem, using the same HP model.

I use also a HP Notebook but with Win7 Host System and I have no such Problems as you describe.

Perhaps you can try to use "replicate physical connection state..." with Bridged; ist here the same issue?

Try to disable Firewalls and Ant Virus Scanner for testing.

- Firewall deactivated

- Antivirus deactivated

- Network setting: Bridged

- "Replicate physical Network Connection state" activated

I had the same problem with Windows 10 1709. Communication was dropping after 30 seconds of connection.

I have it solved. You need to select 'Custom Adapter'

Then in Host system select this adapter and real network adapter and
Bridge them together.

 But if you bridge those to network cards, it would be a greater security issue.

Check your Bridged configuration of VMware,

Go to Edit / Virtual Network Editor / Change Settings

Then select your VMNet that is on Bridge Mode normally is VMNet0, At 'VMnet Information' normally you have the configuration 'Bridge to: Automatic'

This give me a lot of issues in the past, so the way I solved it is selecting manually the network adapter that I want to used.

At the end on your virtual machine, select Bridged Mode.

On our Test System there runs an older Version  some 16XX and it works in bridged mode.

Has someone current Win10 Version which does ot run on VM with TIAV14/15? Are there also Issues like this?

I've hade the same problem. VM has lost connection to 1500 CPU every 30s.

I have bought LINKSYS USB3 to GIGABITE network adapter. I activate it in VM and it works perfect.

I had the same problem with a CPU 1512SP-1 PN using TIA Portal V14 in a VM(VMWare) that runs in Windows 7, the host runs in Windows 10.

I solved this problem by changing in the network adapter of the VM settings the option "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network" for "NAT: Used to share the host's IP address" (see attachment). Also, the IP address of the VM must be DHCP.

We have the same problem of OP with VMWare Workstation 14 using Bridged connection, a Windows 10 Host and a Windows 7 Guest with TIA 14.

TIA loses online communication every 30 seconds, while a "ping -t" test doesn't report any dropped packet. This happens on 3 different models of HP ProBook and HP EliteBook while a ThinkPad with the same VMWare version and the same VM file works perfectly.

So this has to be a matter of incompatiblity between the host network card (HPs have Realtek while the ThinkPad has Intel) and VMWare, but it's difficult to report to them because the ping test works and it's "only" a matter of TIA.

Additionally if we connect to the same PLC via an Internet VPN inside the VM (which uses a tap so another network interface on the guest but the same Bridged on the host) the connection is stable. Very weird and disappointing!

I use Bridged. On my host (laptop), I set my LAN to a fixed IP address (aaa.bbb.ccc.x) and right-click disable all other network adapters (including wireless). If you see a VMNet0 adapter there, then leave that enabled (it’s for Bridged mode), but all others (including VMNet1 and VMNet8 which correspond to Host-only mode and NAT mode)disable. Inside theVMwaresession, I also set its LAN network adapter to a fixed IP address (aaa.bbb.ccc.y). Make sure x and y are different. Open command prompts on both the host and VMware client and PING the PLC (aaa.bbb.ccc.z). If that works, then open the Siemens software. In the Siemens V11 TIA portal software (what I use), select Online&Diagnostics\Accessible Devices. In the Type of PG/PC interface pull down, I select PN/IE. In the PG/PC interface pull down, I select VMWare Accelerated__ . Then hit the Refresh button, it will take some time for the scan to complete. Eventually, your PLC will show on the list along with the status message "Scanning complete" at the bottom if all is well. If that doesn't work, try rebooting the VMware virtual PC and also reboot the host (laptop) and try again.

What you're describing is the "normal" set up method that we used and that always worked in the past. And it still works on the ThinkPad. But, as the OP said, this is not true for the recent HP laptops which ping correctly in Bridged mode but unfortunately the TIA online connection lasts 30 seconds at maximum.

At the moment the only workaround that works is the one posted by @JoRamo, i.e. set the VM network mode in NAT, but it would be great to know why Bridged fails on some PC and works on others.

 I can't even tell you how much time this is going to save us.  This has been the biggest nuisance since using Siemens, and none of their techs had any idea how to fix it.

This solution also works for connection issues with the older Step 7 software.

I can see that I’m not the only one that is facing this kind of problem.

Hereafter my actual pc configuration:

1. Model:HP ZBook 15 G4
2. Ethernet adapter: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-LM
3. OS: Win10

I’m using a Windows virtual machine configured as follow:

1. Virtual machine created using VMware Workstation 15 Pro
2. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

On virtual machine I’ve installed TIA Portal V15.1.

I have tried different configuration of the network adapter on VM settings but I have no found a solution that allows me to work properly in all the conditions. This is what I saw:

1 - Network adapter configured as NAT

Using the network adapter configured in NAT I was able to work with any configured CPUs (that has an IP and profinet name) remaining online as long as I need. Anyway, I’m not able to find or recognize a “new device” that needs to be configured (no assigned profinet name and no IP address) even if I’m directly connect to the device (connection one2one).

2 - Network adapter configured as BRIDGE

I have tried also to use bridge mode with “Replicate physical address…” option enabled. In this way I’m able to recognize all devices that is directly connected to my network interface, configured (has already an IP and profinet name) or factory default.

If I tried to configure a “new device”, the IP address I used in host machine and VM machine is not relevant, I’m able to find the new device independently from the IP address I use.

To download the PLC program to a configured CPU, I have to set an IP compatible with the CPU IP on both machines, host and VM.

The only thing that doesn’t work regards the online mode: I continuously lost online connection in a few seconds, without any reason.

If someone can help me to find a solution to this amazing condition, I really appreciate.

I installed a dual boot with linux and VWMare works well with linux, but i would like to work with W10 as well.

I had the Same Issue, FInally solved by updating the drivers and Disabling the "LiveQoS NDIS 6 Filter Driver" in Ethernet Properties of the Host PC.

 This was the only solution for me, tested, and worked instantly, thank you very much
