how to conect my laptop on a profibus for diagnostics

evera44 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	i have the problem for several weeks and i dont know how to diagnostic the slaves an the software with a lap top, i have SF BF on red in the c7300 cpu and i need to run a test and maybe reload the sofware. he tenido este problema durente muchas semanasy no se como diagnosticar el equipo con una laptop, y tengo los leds SF Bf en rojo en el modulo c7 300 y necesito correr un diagnostico y tal vez reinstalar el software. no se como encontrar el software de diagnostico, no se si siemens tiene alguno o si es gratuito. thanks, gracias.

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 11/17/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (318)	Hi, If you have SF = System Failure and BF = Bus Failure then there might be one or more slaves not on the bus.... You have as first to check if the segments are terminated the right way, a segment is between the first and the last physical RS485 communicationpoints (slave, master, OLM, Repeater). Normally the Profibus stecker have a switch where you can switch on or off the resistors, only on the end of the network you have to place the switches on. If the segments are ok, check also lengths and number of RS485 equipment, on 1 segment you may have 32 RS485 communicationpoints, if you have more then you have to use a repeater... When the above points are ok then you could check with STEP7 in the hardware configuration if you go online which slave(s) are missing or have errors.

evera44 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hi thanks for the huge help. i just rate you. but now i have a question, where can i get the cable to connect the laptop and run the step 7 sofware and what is going to be the best version to download, and will this software tell you what module or item is not working or how it does it. do you have any idea of the fisical topology on this type of profibus network. i really apreciate this help i am not very familiar whit this network i just know about computer networks. and my english is not that good so thanks and i hope you have the best year ever.

Hi, Thank you for the rating, that is what me keep answering questions Do you have STEP7 already... I supose not because of the rest of your questions... Maybe it is then possible that the firm that made the installation could do something for you... If not then STEP7 V5.4 SP3.1 is the newest one, you need a MPI-card like the CP5512 or a USB-cable (is cheaper) to connect from your laptop to the CPU. With STEP7 you could look into the hardware configuration online and see what is wrong. You might also program Report System Error and then you could look with "CPU messages" and/or with a WinCC/WinCC Flexible PC/Panel which errors are there. So if you have already a panel then (if the panel is not to smal) you could use RSE. The Profibus network is a RS485 network, see the manual SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS Networks for more information.

This is a drawing of the cabinet, is the displat a C7-3xx, and if so which one is it. I'am afraid I couldn't help you further if you don't have the SIMATIC Manager (STEP7), do you have that ?
