Hi! Maybe a silly question, but can the new S7-1200 controll Sinamics CU320 control unit over the integrated Profinet interface? Thanks for any ideas. schnek |

Hi, Unhappily I don’t know the CU320, |

You would require a Profinet IO controller to control the CU320 so unfortunately this is not possible with the S7-1200. You would need to control the drive via hardwired IO if you wish to use this module. Who knows though maybeSiemens will release a Profibus Master or Profinet IO controller for the S7-1200 in the future. In the meantime why not look at the ET200S CPUs for a small footprint PLC to control a CU320. |

Hello schnek the real question is whether or not the onboard Ethernet interface of the S7-1200 can act as a Profinet I/O controller which is what you needassuming you want to use theCU320as a profinet I/O device (in Profibus DP terms the S7-1200 would need DP Master capability and the CU320 is a DP Slave). I for one doubt very much thatS7-1200 hasProfinet I/O controllercapability butwould love to stand correctedwhen the offical manual/technical data sheets are released. The information that is available on the Siemens onlylists S7 communication protocol capabilty via the onboard ethernet interface (i.e. you can talk to other S7 PLC's and HMI's). Cheers Fritz |

Hi, Actually, the S7-1200 support just S7-functions, TCP and ISO-on-TCP protocol. |

Hello again schnek just to close things off (since the offical S7-1200 manuals have been released), the answer is that the S7-1200 as expected does NOT have Profinet I/O controller funtionalityso you can NOTusea CU320 as a Profinet I/O device with it. To make matters worse, Siemens has - for reasons that shall forever elude me -dropped STL as a programming language for S7-1200 (only LAD and FBD can be used, not too sure what is going with Siemens butI for one am starting to get concerend). Thank you all for your information. Well hopefully in future the IO Controller functionality will be included. About the STL, I hope the same will not happen to the new series of S7-300 and S7-400... |

Idoubt it, S7-200 never had this ability nor werethese little "suckers" meantto have lots of (distributed) I/O stations but instead aimed at the small machine market. Anyway,I don't really care to be honest. Let's face it who would want to program them if they don't have STL available?
Me too (or otherwiseI will need to consider acareer change). Cheers Fritz |

Profinet I/O functionality will be available in a future release. I don'tknow the timing of the future release with Profinet I/O capability. |

Do you know if a Profibus Interface is also planned for future releases as well? |
