As from the TIA V16, there was the introduction of the WinCC Unified. This is an engineering platform for HMI Comfort Unified and for WinCC Unified PC.  It brings many news regarding the WinCC Advanced / WinCC Professional.

Definition / characteristics

Technological Hierarchy is a new way to manager (organize/navigate) objects (e.g. Faceplates / screens). In the Technological Hierarchy, the programmer defined a “folder structure” that is used to navigate in de screens / filter the alarms in runtime.

It substitutes the navigation configuration on the HMI’s creation wizard and add an alternative to do it in SCADA systems. After some configuration steps, the navigation is ready for use, without the necessity to use individual navigation buttons on the screens. Changes after the original creation could be done without effort.

The Technological Hierarchy could be configured in the Plant Object view (a new tab on project tree, on right side of the Devices tab).

It is possible to create different Plant views (Technological Hierarchy) and assign then to different HMI devices in the project, so that the different HMI’s could have independent plant views.

Prerequisites:

Define the objects on PLC side: define PLC (HW, networks, etc.), PLC Data type and the variables (e.g. instance DB’s) using these PLC Data Type.

Configuration sequence:

1. Create a Plant view: Project tree, Plant objects, Add new Plant view
2. Connect this Plant view to one HMI device: right mouse on the created Plant view, Assign HMI device
3. Create a “folder structure” (node structure) that makes sense on the point of view of the operator. To add nodes, click with the right mouse click on the Plant view, “Add new node”/”Rename”.
4. Create object  types: select in the Plant objects buttons (near the tab),the button “show plant object types”;  on the Toolbox (right side) click in “add new plant object type”
   • TIP: the object types could refer just to "subfolders" or to "really objects".
5. Configure the created object types: double click on the created object type (on right side), configure the Interface, discrete alarms, analog alarms, visualization.
   • Interface: define the tags (name, communication driver, data type – e.g.  for "really objects", linked with a PLC’s FB).
     • TIP: If desired, it is possible to link the Object to more than one tag, including internal tags.
     • TIP: for the created interfaces it is possible to define alarms and logging tags (configuration stays between the middle area and the bottom properties area)
   • Visualization: drag and drop the respective Faceplate from the project tree (left):  Project tree, Devices tab, Common data, Unified faceplate types - drag and drop it to the central area, tab Visualization. In the column interface type, connect each faceplate tags to the object interface tag.
6. Drag and drop the plant object types (on the right side, “toolbox”) to the left side (project tree, plant objects tab), under the created plant view, in a folder that make senses to the operator.
7. Define the instance: select the object type placed in last step on project tree, double click on it and in, central area, under interfaces, link it to the PLC’s variable (e.g. FB’s instance DB).
8. Create screens into the navigation tree levels as desired: select the navigation level in the left side, doulble click, and, on the right side, in tab visualization, <add new screen>
9. Configure the created screens: double click on the created screen, set properties, drag and drop subordinate plant objects (from the plant object tree, Plant Objects, select the plant object types and drag and drop to screen,  in central area), configure additional cosmetics etc.
10. Call the plant view: drag & drop on a screen (e.g. start screen): the Plant overview control (from toolbox, My controls), one Screen window (from toolbox, Controls ) and one Alarm control (optional)
11. Link the Plant overview control  to the Screen window  / Alarm control: Plant overview control  properties, Miscellaneous, Interface, Companion control, “…”, Add new one or twice (just one element per screen windows and other one, optional, for alarm view): a new subolder(s) ([0] Element, [1] Element ] was/were created; in the inserted element: select control type as Screen window/Alarm view;  selected the respective Screen window/Alarm view in the property Control reference; Configure the property Companion control configuration (filters, etc.) as desired.

TIP on operation: on the Plant Overview control, there is a combo box (open, right), that filter (all folders, folders with defined screens, folders with active alarms). if you don't find a folder online, check if the selected filter matchs.

I can't create more than one Plantview. I can only assign one HMI ...

Hi,

in principle, each HMI/PC system should be linked with just one Plant View, but a project could have more than one plant view, if it had more then one HMI / PC. However I agree with you that, at this first (V16) version, just one Plant view could be inserted in the project.
