Hello stevienicks; Could you give us more information on the P40 controller you are trying to connect as a Profinet IO Device? The only interesting link I found on the web is this Elgo product: https://www.elgo.de/en/products/controls/p40/ One point: Profinet is a relatively new network in the automation field, it was introduced by Profibus International less than 20 years ago, and non-Siemens equipment did not embrace it until a few years after that. Deprnding on how old this controller is, it might not have Profinet communication adapters that would allow the type of connection yiu want to set up. Do you have a copy of the required GSDML file for Profinet configuration of the P40 as a Profinrt IO Device, or at least a Profinet manual from the manufacturer? Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

The link you attached isn't the controller I have but sort of similar. Essentially this older P40 controller has a Grid Connect Xport so it's able to communicate via profinet. I followed all the steps to set up/configure the P40 in Telnet. Also attached the respected GSD file to Siemens TIA. I have attached the PDF of the steps I was following. The model number for the Grid Connect Xport is XPORT-PNIO-MB. AttachmentXPort_PNIO-MB_UserGuide.pdf (296 Downloads) |

Here is the GSD file as a .txt file. It would not let me attach a .xml file to this forum.

Hello stevienicks; Thank you for the manual and GSDML file, normally they should be suffcient to work out how to set up the XPORT gateway as a Profinet IO Device to the Profinet network of your PLC (acting as an IO Controller). Unfortunately, the manual is all but useless in that regard, it never discusses configuration of the gateway as a Profinet IO Device, and only indicates important details of the setup via the Telnet connection to Modbus withiut details. The screenshot below , from the gateway manual, gives an idea of what I mean. One of the most basic steps to configure an IO Device would be to atrribute to the gateway (once the GSDML file has been integrated to the IO Controller configuration in Step 7, and once an instance of the IO Device has been dragged to the virtual network) a Profinet Name and IP address. https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/49948856/138900864395 But it seems that in the XPORT configuration you must also set the Profinet name and IP address as part of the Telnet connection for the Modbus connection. I suggest you make sure that the Step 7 Profinet configuration duplicates the attributed name and IP address you hve used in the Telnet configuration. Please tell us if this helps, If it oes not, I can only suggest you go back to Grid connect support and request help from their part. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Unfortunately it did not solve the issue. I will contact Grid Connect. I appreciate your time and assistance! |
