I have an issue I would like to solve.

I have one ET200SP CPU 1512P 1-PN and one S7-1500 CPU 1515 2PN, and I want to send data from ET200SP to the S7 1500. I was using I-Device Communication and using transfer areas to send data, which worked all fine via Ethernet.

But, what we want to do is to have ET200SP as a Client with TP-Link Antenna and the other end of the Access Point to be connected to a switch which has the S71500 connected to the switch.

I have them all in the same network, but since they are configured as IO-Device and IO Controller, in both PLC there is an error "Can't seem to connect to controller/device", which means that they cannot seem to find each other.

When having WiFi in between, should I use another protocol between them and not I-Device, if YES which one? How would you solve my issue?

If your I-Device communication should work fine, you need to use deterministic wireless communication. To reach this, you need Wifi 4 devices from Siemens with iPCF (iFeatures) for example: SCALANCE W774-1 RJ45 as Access Point and SCALANCE W734-1 RJ45 as Client with the iFeature KEY-Plug for each device.

You can also use the Wifi 6 devices without iPCF, if the wifi channels are free to use.

Hi,

PROFINET communication is based on MAC address. when you use a AP / Client wi-fi devices, as default, he changes the senders MAC addresses for your own MAC address. This makes communication impossible. 

To avolid it, SIEMENS AP / Client devices (SCALANCE W) has a "Tunnel Layer 2" feature" . With this the original MAC addresses  are preserved.

Check if your wifi supplier has also this feature. If not, either you change the radio supplier or change the communiation protocoll for one 100% IP based (get put. T_SEND T_RCV) even they have a lower performance.
