Dear all,

We have a Scalance x208 (6GK5208-0BA10-2AA3) and we wanted to update its firmware. I have logged in the device with the browser in order to update the firmware, unfortunately, I selected wrong update files and downloaded it on the device.

This mistake puts the Scalance in fault mode. The fault LED is blinking. I can change the device IP with Primary Setup Tool (PST) but I cannot connect to it with the browser but I can ping it.

How can I fix the Scalance?

I found the problem. I have selected the wrong firmware file and the fault occurred.

If you load the wrong file in the X208, the update does not take place.
Did you try a factory reset (maintain de reset button pushed till all LEDs flashes together)?

Probably the right file has been downloaded incompletely!

The reset button does not work. Held it for a minute and nothing happened.

It seems that the SIMATIC AUTOMATION TOOL is able in its version V4.0 to make firmware updates of Scalance devices. You will need a basic license at least (chapter 8 of the manual).
Of course, I never did it on a device that is in your situation. So it is a guess from me.

open windows command prompt and type ftp <ip-adress>

if the connection is established ,you receive the following message:

User (<ip-adress>:(none))

enter siemens as user name and password and after successful login use "put" command followed by firmware file location.

after successful update switch will restart and work correctly.
