Hi,

I am having some communication issues when trying to backup/download from Siemens PG to an OP Panel using Protool(V6.0 SP3) and Prosave(V9.0.3.0). I have read through a lot of online forums on similar issues but can't figure out why I am having issues

I have an OP17 panel(6AV3617-1JC20-0AX1) which needs to be replaced so I plan to take a backup of the program from the panel and download it to another OP17 panel (Exact same part number, new in box). I have tried to take a backup using Prosave as described here  but I get a commuication error "Could not establish a connection. Check your settings, interfaces, cables, etc". In the 'General' tab in Prosave I have the following settings:

Device Type: OP17

Connection: Serial

Port: COM1

Baude Rate: 9600

I have tried the other Baud rate settings and the other COM2 port option but none seem to work. The cable I am using is 6AV3617-1JC20-0AX1 and the OP is in transfer mode so everything looks fine.

I have also tried to create a basic project in Protool and try to download to the OP but get error message "E4027: Synchronization faulty. No connection to the OP!" in the download window. The settings i have in File>Download>Preferences are similar to Prosave settings described above and have tried various other settings.

If anyone could offer any advice for a solution for this would be great.

what computer do you use for transfer?

Are you sure your serial port is working?

I had problems with some notebooks to get a communication to the panel via serial port although the port of the laptop was working.

We had a Siemens PG740 at that time and with this device I always could communicate with the panel.

I am using a Siemens field PG M4 and I am pretty sure all the ports are fine. I need to use a gender changer for the cable to the port that's the only thing I can think might be causing a problem. Do you know of this should work?

I have the same problem. I have tried different version of prosave, different laptop and also using protool V6 Sp3 under winXP to try to connect but all without success.

try using different laptop..... the older the better the chance to connect...

are you sure your port ofthe panel is working? Did you try another panel?

Or another serial device?
