Wireless industrial Ethernet

Trikkern Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi I have been given the task to establish wireless acces to a process plants ethernet. The idea is, that the machine operators, instead of manually writing down different important production values on paper, will be equipped with a tablet PC from wich theese data can be transfered directly to the office of the factory . Furthermore it should be possible for a technician to connect his PG to the S7 plc's connected to the ethernet via interface modules, from this wireless solution. At the factory there is already established a functioning ethernet system with the use of the Scalance 108X 0X switches. Therefore i would like to know how to thoose the right acces point for the sollution. It could potentially be a POE acces point depending on the cost of the components. I will be gratefull for any usefull advice as i seem to drown in timewasting google-hits! Best regards Mathias Nielsen

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello Mathias, as far as you want to connect tablet PCs and PGs only you don't need an Access Point whichsupports iPCF, which is necessary for Profinet. I guess you want tomount the Access Point indoor? In this case you could use an W788-1PRO which you can mount indoor but outside of cabinet: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/27095871 There are also the new 802.11n Access Point (if your PG support 802.11n)available where you can achieve datarates of round about 450 Mbit/s brutto (with MIMO antennas): http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/48333854 The antennas you can use depends on the environment in your plant and the distances you want to achieve between Access Point and Client applications. You should make some test measurements to make sure that the signal quality is enough in ever area.
