First question: Are you going to use PCS7 software? You are going to need at least PCS7 V8.1 in order to operate the CPU410. 

The CPU410-5H is made exclusively for PCS7 using AS PO licenses as well as a SEC card on which PO are "installed" to determine the "power" of the CPU.

We have a S7 application software that uses extensively TCP-IP and UDP communications (TSEND/TRECV, TUSEND/TURCV) that works natively on S7-300 and S7-400 CPUs. Application is written using STL and SCL. No physical (hardware) I/Os is used.

We are now forced to deploy this application to a CPU410H and we have some questions:

1. Can I just create a “block call” entry point using PCS7 and call my program from that entry point using Simatic manager as I did in the S7-400?
2. Is there any limits on the use of OpenIE functions on the CPU410H integrated ports?
3. Can I download single program blocks (FB,FC,DBs) using Simatic Manager? Using PLCSIM I saw that if change the project property “USE” from “PCS7” to “STEP7” I am allowed to download individual blocks to the CPU.

In short I am trying to use a CPU410H as a CPU4xx…. I really do not need any of the features of the CPU410H.

Hi,

You can integrate your custom FB/DB/FC etc. in the PCS7 project. You can just compile and download the PLC using PCS7 functions. Make sure you follow the rules... FB range above 2500 is recommended for custom FB blocks. DB1 to 60 can be used for custom datablocks and FC60-700 can be used for custom FC's. You can increase the DB and FC range from the Compile settings in CFC if you need. 

I'm curious why you need to use the CPU410 if you aren't using PCS7.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to provide the CPU410H with the "PO 500" expansion card in order to have the work memory I need.

I guess I have to use PCS7 (>=v 8.1) to load the hardware configuration and make the call to my software library.

I will change the project property "use" from "PCS7" to "STEP7" in order to enable the download button in SimaticManager/PCS7.

After that I hope I can use a simple "S7 program folder" from SimaticManager or from PCS7 to load individual program blocks to the CPU (In CFC I will reserve a range of blocks for non-CFC applications).

Do you think that it will be possible to work this way?
