Don't put anything in between CPU and ET200. Connect on second available port. |

Hello tahlil first things first, pretty much any unmanaged and managed switch can be used for Profinet RTand I'm pretty confident that your Cisco 2960 series switch can also be used for Profinet (as long as you are using Profinet RT and NOT IRT which requires IRT capable switches). Ipresume that the "No"entry for "Profinet IO" intheCisco overviewthat you referred to simplymeans that you won't get a GSDML file for the switch and thus can't add the switch itself as an I/O device to your S7 HWconfig. So why won't it work I hear you ask? Well, there's a couple of things to be aware of and check: 1.) Confirm that you are using Profinet RT(NOT IRT) 2.)Be aware that Profinet uses IEEE 802.1Q packet structure with aVLAN ID=0,Priority 6 and Ethernet type 0x8892 which means thefollowing for you: a.)Priority 6 isalso used for VOIP and must be enabled on the switch. b.) Your "2.jpg" shows that you are using VLAN's in your network and assigned VLAN 11. You'll need to configure your CISCO switch to accept the Profinet VLAN ID=0 frame (Ethernet type = 0x8892) andthen forwarded it tagged asVLAN 11. Have a look at Which settings have to be complied with in a PROFINET RT network in conjunction with VLAN switches? for more details on this and then get your IT department cracking on configuring your CISCO switch properly. @ Marko Bursic: "... while clients (ET200S,...) use special ASIC to decode and encode telegrams on the fly - means they are receiving telegrams and at the same time forwarding telegrams to another station, if telegram is addressed to them they patch and encode their data on the fly". |

Hellofritz I am using Profinet RT. When I am using CISCO 2950 switch in same VLAN, everything is OK. but in CISCO 2960 switch, the BF LED on CPU and ET200S flashes. I am not configuring VLAN ID = 0 in Cisco 2960. (The default VLAN number is 1. The VLAN ID range is 1-4094.). The CISCO 2950 doesn't need any configure. Are you helping me to configure Cisco 2960 series??? Our IT department couldn't configure VLAN ID = 0 in CISCO 2960. |

Hello tahlil love to be able to help further, but am afraid to say that I tend not to use CISCO switches and can't offer any hand on experience with their setup concerning this. I suggest you (oryour IT department) have another look at the link I provided you with which contains the info on what needs to be done in general concerning VLAN uses in a Profinet. Thereafter, consult your CISCO manual and/or the CISCO webpage which has more info on how to configure the switch and/or get in touch with CISCO support. |

Someone in another post is saying the following: "I have found the solution and will post it here for the benefit of others and myself when I forget.... It would seem that the discovery protocol used by profinet is similar to that used by an ip phone. In a telnet session to the cisco switch I set switchport voice vlan 1 for the port that the IE/PB link is on - I could then find the IE/PB link through MAC address browsing in plc->ethernet->assign device name in HW config. If you didn't want to telnet to the switch this should also work from the web interface using the predefined cisco smartport role "Cisco Phone+Desktop" for the port that the IE/PB link is connected to /tf/WW/en/Posts/12428 |
