Here are the the specifications of the electric motor mentioned above (the bolded text is what confuses me): Type: Siemens 1PV5135WS28 3 Phase Induction Motor Number of Poles: 4 Continuous Power: 67 kW – 91 hp Maximum Power (@ 850V): 200 kW – 272 hp <15 seconds Maximum Power (@ 650V): 160 kW – 214 hp <30 seconds Maximum Torque: 317 ft-lbs (430 Nm) RPM Range: 0 – 10.000 RPM Cooling: Water/Glycol Weight: 200lbs (90 kg)

If you need an explanation regarding the terms I hope the following will help: - continuous Power: Operation with a constant load, the duration of which is sufficient that the motor goes into a thermal steady-state condition. - max. Power:Power that is generated at the maximum permissible current. The maximum torque is briefly available for high-speed operations (dynamic response to quickly changing loads). The max. Power is only for short time useable. Otherwise the motor would heat up and would take damage. Attached a characteristic curve. This should help for understanding too.
