RS232 communication between S7-1200 & iCount PD Parker device

gaspar1 Experienced Member Joined: 1/23/2009 Last visit: 1/20/2026 Posts: 33 Rating: (11)	Dear friends, I have a problem to connect Siemens PLC (S71200 CPU 1215C DC/DC/DC Firmware v4.5) with iCount PD device with rs232 interface. I tested connection PC <-> iCount PD and this work fine. I tested using RS232 adapter Digitus with software "iCount setup utility" I also tested connection with iCount PD with "Parker terminal" and this also work fine, iCount send regularly response on my requests (RLR or RMV) While using "Parker terminal" software, I realized that it is necessary to have specific characters on the message end.(CR, LF, CR & LF) So I tried this also in PLC inmessage which is sent to iCount Parker device. So I included this characters (CR, LF, CR & LF) at the end of the message. But all my effort was unsuccesful. On PLC side I use S71200 CPU and Send_P2P instructions from TIA V17 portal. Idea is to send data (RLR for example) to iCount PD and receive answer with requested data. Data for sending I put in Data block which is Data block type - Array of characters (I also try with Array of bytes). In this data block I arranged data to be ready for send. RLR & CR... Also I try with R;L;R;CR; RLR;CR; RLR;CR;LF; RLR RMV In Send_P2P instructions is a little bit strange situation, because in Status word of this command I get number 7000 which indicate that maybe sending process not even started. This instruction (Send_P2P) I already used in the past with other devices on RS232 and this worked fine with other devices (HBM weighing modules for example).... Of course You must use appropriate port (hardware identifier of current CM1241 module) and make this modul settings correct. I also do that. So my question is: Do you have any idea how to make this connection to work properly? And do you have some example created in TIA portal for S71200-iCount PD connections?

But we can only verify your configuration and program if you share it with us. PDF print and/or screen captures in a ZIP attachment (use the classic forum interface) would work. The hardware configuration and instruction call is of concern. Verify your hardware configuration. Ensure the prefix and postfix characters to your message is defined. The linefeed character can be defined in the hardware configuration. Make sure that the hardware configuration is loaded. If done properly the PLC will go through a STOP mode. I am assuming that the program includes a configuration instruction that sets / initializes the port to the required configuration. You have not made any mention of the configuration instruction.

I didn't defined bits for Done, Error, etc...because I can see their status online when I make my tests...also I can see online status of Send_P2P instruction which is constantly 7000 (with RS232 cable pulled in and pulled out - always the same) and seems like Cm1241 modul is to lazy to do anything... I can not get any change of Done, Error bits status...or change of status word ...7000 constantly. Like port was not even opened.... Attachment icount.zip (1 Downloads)

Note that when an error state occurs, that error state is held only for one cycle. Knowing the error stae is very important. You will not be able to see what error has been activated, unless you add code to capture it. Alternatively make use of the TRACE function in the Step7 software to plot out the various bit and number states over each PLC cycle. .. Why are you using a 20s (20,000ms) waiting time?
