peters Posts: 122 Rating: (4)	[:o]dear experts: i got questiones about the REPEATER show in "repeater"document.are there any influence to the segment1 line if one node got problem in the segment2 line? another question about the SWITCHES:the configuration of switches for process are designed as a ring(show in "switch2"document).but actually there is no connection betwween switch26 and switch27,so it is no a ring any more.i want to ask that are there any difference in communication between these two modes? thanks very much! Hi Peters, Answer 1: When you have the newest one then Trouble from Segment 2 will not interrupt Segment 1. [:D] Answer 2: I don't see how the switches in the first picture are used.... [:(] Normally you need some switches with more then one port and the ring is electrical or with fiber optics. For example you may use the Scalance X204-2 whereby the FO-ports are used for the ring, there must be also a RingManager somewhere, you may use a Scalance X202-2IRT that one can be usedas a RM. It is also possible with a X414-3E to use as RM and also with standby. [;)]

About the second question I would say that if you run an Redundant ring in Line mode you have the so called Redundancy Case, so the ring is no ring anymore and it will be no problem besides the fact that the Redundancy manager will constantly show that the he forwards each telegram. But anyway you can also use this in Line Mode but you do not have the possibility to ignore one Line break anymore. I hope I could help you with these information’s. Best regards J_Bell

peters Posts: 122 Rating: (4)	dear experts: i have taken pictures about the switches and show them in the documents follow(this switch is in the end of the LINE).i am sure that the cable is fiber cable and it's style is "1-VH 2G 62.5/125u,LSZH 2x_".the cable for each port of switch is double(line A and line B),i think it's redundant,is it? there is another question: if there are four style of configurations of switch:/a.RING style and redundant cable/b.RING style and only one cable/c.LINE style and redundant cable/d.LINE style and only one cable i think "a" is the most safety choice,"b" and "c" can give the same function but there will be problemes if one cable is break."d" can not be choosed(because it is in the lowest safety,if there is a cable break the network then break), am i right? by the way,is there any difference in communication protocol between the RING style and the LINE style upstairs?thanks!

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 11/17/2023 Posts: 2705 Rating: (318)	Hi Peters, It is possible to built a HSR {High Speed Redundancy} when you have a switch that can be the Redundancy Manager {RM}. It is also possible to built up two rings as standby link. The ring have to be built up so that the redundancy manager get on both sides of the ring physically the same ports. That ports could be electrical {100 MBit/s, 1GBit/s) or optical. The switches that could be redundancy manager are the older OSM, the X202-2IRT and the X204IRT (with RM firmware) and the X414-3E and the X408-2. Please read the handbook of the X400 serie carefully: SIMATIC NET Operating Instructions Industrial Ethernet Switches SCALANCE X-400 SIMATIC NET Configuration Manual Industrial Ethernet Switches SCALANCE X-400 From the X200-serie: Industrial Ethernet SCALANCE X-100 and SCALANCE X-200 Product Line And for the OSM: Industrial Ethernet OSM/ESM Network Management SIMATIC NET Industrial Ethernet OSM/ESM Because of the not clear situation, you might have now all posibilitys, please ask direct to the point with a powerpoint drawing or something what the exact (wished) built up is that you wish/have.

[:cry:] I don't know anything about the switches, as mentioned before, look in the handbooks from the scalance switches and see if your answer is between it. Next time please consider to buy the scalance switches, we have a lot of experience with that switches and you may do several standby links and High Speed Redundancy with the switches.
