S7-1500/ET 200MP. What happens in case of a direct short circuit?

I wanted some details not available in the manual for S7-1500/ET 200MP DQ 8x24VDC/2A HF Digital Output What happens in case of a direct short circuit? Does the channel shutdown? The block? Or the entire module? I noticed the spec sheet states a max of 3A but wanted to know what happens during. We are testing some of the IO modules and the module did not behave as I was expecting. Thank you for any support.

The manual off 6ES7522-1BF00-0AB0 (http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/59193089) says the channel diagnostics show a short circuit, so I think the channel are working separately: Look here: Chap. 4.1, Tab. 4-1, Chap. 5.1, Tab 5-1 Chap. 5.3, Tab 5-4 Chap. 6, section "Digital Outputs"
