Hi everybody, I havesome general questions: 1. What the signification of the second number of the part number (1AE01)? /what's the main difference between the following Cpu's:
2. are all the i/o modules given in the SIMATIC S7-300 / S7-300Frepertory backward (downward)compatible whit all the CPU 3xx? (the standardones not safety i/o with standard plc and so on...). 3. is there firmwaresfor i/o modules? 4. When do i need to upgrade the CPU firmware ? Thanks Simon |

Hi, In addition to Aret's reply: 1. Have a closer look at the 6ES7 314-1A series. In the early days a firmware update would cause a new number (e.g. 6ES7 314-1AE00 to 6ES7 314-1AE04). When some new (hardware) features change or are added you got other characters (6ES7 314-1AE.., 6ES7 314-1AF.., 6ES7 314-1AG..). 2. I/O-modules (digital and analog inputs and output modules) are mostly backwards compatible, but if you want to be sure first check the FAQ's. For more intelligent modules (e.g. CP cards) you should always check first, sometimes the CPU needs a firmware update or a new CPU is needed. 3. I agree with Aret. The more intelligent modules (at least the new ones) can often be updated. 4. It's right that SiemensrecommendsalwayshavinglastFWversion. But if you do not experience any trouble why should you do a firmware update? You always can check the fimware information for your CPU to be used if there are any problems with the firmware known (e.g. here). You can easilycheck if the firmware in your CPU iscurrent (e.g. here). Want to know more about the changes? See e.g. this. During the last couple of months not doing any firmware updates did save me lots of time, I didn't update the firmware of my CPU314 from FW V2.0 to V2.6. Now with V2.6.3 and higher released I could consider doing a firmware update... |
