i'm a student in Belgium and i'm doing a research in a company about the remote access of industrial machines and the security of this system. I notice that most of the industrial machines that we have in the company in Remote Access for maintenance are connected by a modem linked to a modulate named "Simatic". We have by example a modem connected to a Simatic S7 Ts adapter V5.1 wich is linked to a Sinumerik 840D with PCU50.

We are looking for solutions (hardware and software) more securized with authentification, cryptography, etc. We have currently this Remote Access with a phone line that we connect-disconnect and we look perhaps for a connection from internet with a vpn or other possibilities. The job that I have is to look which solutions can ben used with the machines already present and what's the best solution for futur machines.

I looked the book "sinumerik & simodrive, NC60 -2004" and i found some informations about "Motion Control Information System MCIS" and particulary "RCS Host PCU20/RCS Viewer PCU 20" which I think is a good beginning for this search but we have also here PCU 50. I saw also that the book presents "Simatic Net" with Remote Access, Remote Access Service (RAS), A&D SH Industrial IT for a better network security with is the main point of this research.

Could you give me more informations or where I can found more informations about this system, new systems that your propose since 2004 and specially about the security options.
