I have a CPU 313C-2 DP but i haven't found the information for which memory areas are retained after power failure and which are not? how can i open the whole memory to see what it contains (instead of creating really big VAT)? Thx: pici_c

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	You can set the retentive memory bytes in the CPU properties, Retentive Memory tab. See attachment. The data blocks are generally retentive with battery backup. See the online help for a detailed description. I cannot think of any other way to view the memory except via VAT. You could transfer the entire memory area to a data block using SFC20: Block Move and view the memory status in the DB. But I do not see any great advantage in doing this. aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Hi For some explanation of memory set-up goto 'PLC\module information' then select the 'memory tab' , then select ' detail memory area' then click on 'help'. On a 313C-2DP you can olnly use warm restart , so the values in the DB's are the last values you use and not the intial values. In the hardware section ,in the properties of the CPU you can select which MB,T or C value you want to save on powerloss. Bye Eric

But if the 128 byte (CPU 312C) or the 256 byte (CPU 313C) isn't enough, can I extend it somehow? because i do not want to by another (more expensive) PLC, but i have to store lots of datas.. and where are hidden the clock pulse sings. the first cycle flag, the 1 second pulse, the 1 minute pulse etc. ? pici_c

Phantom75 Posts: 2661 Rating: (279)	pici_c: The pulse flags can be defined in the CPU properties Cycle/Clock memory tab. The assigned frequencies are described in the online help. See attachment. The first cycle flag (for each OB), you have to create yourself in the program. BTW, OB2 to OB9 are not used in S7. In S5 they are used for interrupt processing. pici_c Posts: 80 Rating: (2)	thanks for everybody, you are saving me hours of hopeless manualreading... considering, that the Siemens PLC doesn't use backup battery, it stores the data on MMC, is it possible to save memory area to the MMC in case of power failure? because it would encrease the retentive memory size. (it is important for me, because the same expensive Omron PLC has more than 64 KB retentive memory, and I don't really understand the siemens point in this way of evolution) thanks pici_c
