Firmware Upgrade Issue for S7-1200 G2 (6ES7 214-1AF50-0XB0) in TIA Portal V21

karthik_srm Joined: 12/6/2025 Last visit: 12/15/2025 Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hello everyone, Hope you all having a great day! I am using an S7-1200 G2 CPU (6ES7 214-1AF50-0XB0). Previously, I configured and used this PLC in TIA Portal V20 Update 4, and the device firmware version was V1.0.2. Now, after migrating the project to TIA Portal V21, the hardware catalog shows an available firmware option V4.1 for this exact G2 CPU in the firmware selection dropdown. However: The Siemens Industry Online Support (SIOS) website shows no firmware newer than V1.0.2 for this CPU. I cannot find any downloadable firmware package for V4.1. Therefore, I am unable to perform the upgrade even though TIA Portal V21 appears to support it. Whether Firmware V4.1 is officially released for the S7-1200 G2 CPU 6ES7 214-1AF50-0XB0?

Stefan Arcularius Platinum Member Joined: 1/21/2013 Last visit: 12/16/2025 Posts: 4342 Rating: (647)	Hi karthik_srm, STEP 7 version 21 includes S7-1200 G2 CPUs with V1.0 and V4.1 firmware versions in its hardware catalog. When updating a V1.0 CPU, only the V4.1 firmware will be offered. However, this does not mean that you cannot use the CPU with the V1.0 firmware. For now, use the V1.0 configuration until the V4.1 firmware becomes available. It likely won't be long. Kind regards Stefan

The reason I was looking for the new firmware is because Motion Control V9.0, which comes with TIA Portal V21, requires the CPU firmware to be updated in order to use the new MC function set. Tell them you are seeking that firmware - and hoping you do not need to swap your existing G2 for a newer hardware revision to install V4.1 FW onto it. They will of course assure you your existing G2 will accept FW 4.1. Might even offer a link to the FW provided you do not share it with anyone - at least until it's officially released. I doubt what I just wrote will happen, but it is not impossible, just unlikely. karthik_srm Hi Stefen, I will continue using the V1.0 configuration until the V4.1 firmware is officially released and available for download. The failsafe firmware will likely be released soon: S7-1200 G2 CPU 1212C, DC/DC/DC, 8DI/6DO/2AI S7-1200 G2 CPU 1212C, AC/DC/RLY, 8DI/6DO S7-1200 G2 CPU 1212C, DC/DC/RLY, 8DI/6DO S7-1200 G2 CPU 1214C, DC/DC/DC, 14DI/10DO S7-1200 G2 CPU 1214C, AC/DC/RLY, 14DI/10DO S7-1200 G2 CPU 1214C, DC/DC/RLY, 14DI/10DO Kind regards Stefan
