Sea Water Pump Change Over

Good Afternoon,

I am wondering if someone on here would be able to help me, being an engineer on an ship that is starting to get older, we are continuously suffering with failing PLCs. I am trying to teach myself how to program them myself, I have no experience of doing this so am starting from scratch. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I have two sea water cooling pumps, one main and one stand by, when the main is running the stand by is to start if the pressure switch drops below a set level. It would be great if I could get a few pointers on where to start.

Thank you for the quick reply, I really want to learn to be able to do this myself, there are various projects on the boat but are pretty similar sort of thing (pump starts, compressor starters etc) If you could provide me with a program, or just some advise on how to start to build the program.

Any of your wisdom would be most welcome.

No, I have bought the latest LOGO units, so I can get everything up to date, I have 4 failed at the moment 1 still works but I would like to replace them all with new programming and new PLCs.

I work as a superintendent electrician for a company with 60 ships.

i made multiple upgrades with the logo serie , all main automation is done by S7 PLC's.

when you reinstall the PLC also include a power supply filter and surge protection. I know the power supply onboard ships is not always perfect and one weak point for all PLC's are the power supply.

So a cheap protection /filter can safe a more expensive PLC.
