TIA portal V18 Panel Images

Hi k_lamar,

as you can find at the delivery release SIMATIC WinCC V18, there is no new dedicated RT Advanced version and also no new device versions for Comfort and Basic panels.

It seems that it was not taken into account that when using V18 without previous versions on the computer, the images should be installable. I hope, Siemens will find a solution soon.

For the meanwhile try to get the images from a computer with an installed V17.

thank you for the reply. Finally I downloaded the "Device Type Dependent Image Files" and put them in manually. (Basic Panels, Comfort Panels, Unified Panels).

in the meanwhile the DVD "SIMATIC WinCC Legacy Panel Images V18" was published. This setup allows the installation of the V17, Update 5 version of the panel images for the older panels.

I tried this. It installs a lot of unnecessary stuff. Not just V17 images but V16 as well. User cannot select what panels are needed images for. It installs ALL panels. Absolutely SSD wasting. I will remain with the "Device Type Dependent Image Files" and I will install manually those that I really need.

I'm facing the same problem. Our company uses only some kind of KTP and TP panels so I don't need tenths of gigs of panel images. I have an SSD so my space is limited. 

It's possible to install only the required panel images, or select which ones to install?

I'm back here because I have a KTP1200 Basic in my V18 project. I've selected 17.0.0.0 as runtime version and obviously I'm missing the panel image.

Just for clarification:

Do I have to download DVD 4 (Legacy) from this link to make it work?

If yes, this is absolutely madness. Legacy panel images DVD is 7.5Gb and Upd6 is another >2Gb download and install.

Why do I have to stick with older versions to be able to download the single panel image?

Please make single downloads for all panel images also for V18.

UPDATE 1: To be able to install the images on Tia Portal V18 I had to download the package

Even then I cannot select the single image that I'm missing. It's a massive 7.22Gb download and installation for a 90Mb panel image!!!

UPDATE 2: Maybe I found a workaround.

If you download the full package and just extract without installing, there's a folder with a CAB file inside located at "\SIMATIC WinCC Panel Images V18.0\InstData\WinCC-TrC-All\Media" that contains all the legacy panel images for V16-V17.

If you extract it, you will find all the images with a long filename with some GUID in it. Just remove the GUID to have the panel image

e.g. for KTP1200:

KTP1200DP_V17_00_00_05.FWF_58BF8D94_6292_5F7E_B242_2EE927FB1EFD

becomes

KTP1200DP_V17_00_00_05.FWF

Then put this image inside the Transfer folder as long as the corresponding BUILDINFO.TXT file

C:\Program Files\Siemens\Automation\Portal V18\Data\Hmi\Transfer\17.0\Images\KTP1200

Still this requires the full package download, but at least you can copy only the image that you need

I can confirm that this method works. 

Additionally you can find the exact name of the image inside the corresponding XML inside this folder

C:\Program Files\Siemens\Automation\Portal V18\Data\Hmi\Transfer\17.0

e.g. for KTP1200 just open with notepad DeviceMapping_Lean12_KTP1200.xml for PN panel and DeviceMapping_Lean12_KTP1200DP.xml for DP panel.

The filename is inside the XML tag

<Datastore ImageName="KTP1200dp_V17_00_00_05.fwf"/>

</GenerateImage>

Finally Siemens release a useful tool to select which image you want to download from their servers.

I've tested with TIA V18 Upd2 and works ok.

No more wasted disk space. Thank you
