Changing DCOM Settings for Windows XP

Requirements

Create the user account under which the WinCC OPC server is to run in the user management of the OPC client computer. Do the reverse also, setting up the user account for the client on the OPC server computer. Additional information regarding this may be found under "Registering Communication Partner Accounts on OPC Workstations".

Procedure

1. Select "Run..." from the Start menu and enter "dcomcnfg.exe". The component services application will be launched.

2. Select the entry " OPCServer.WinCC" under "Component Services" > "My Computer" > "DCOM Configuration".
In the case of a WinCC OPC HDA server, the entry "OPCHDAServers.WinCC" must be used. In the case of a WinCC OPC A&E server, the entry "OPCServerAE.WinCC" must be used.

Select "Properties" from the "OPCServer.WinCC" context menu. The "OPCServer.WinCC Properties" dialog appears.

3. Select the "Security" tab. Select the "Customize" option in the "Access Permissions" area Click "Edit". The access permissions dialog appears.

4. Add the users "Administrators", "Interactive" , "Everyone", "Network" and "System" with the right "Allow". Click "OK" to close the dialog.

5. Select the "Customize" option in the "Start Permissions" area Click "Edit". The "Start Permissions" dialog appears.

6. Add the users "Everyone" and "Network" with the right "Allow". Click "OK" to close the dialog.

7. Click "OK" to close all open dialogs.
