Some years ago I had a bad experience with profibus transmission over rails. I think that the main problem was the mold release agent used in the process. The rail system was by Wampfler http://www.wampfler.com/ and they told me that for datatransmission a special material “Datametal” should by used instead of standard cooper rails . We suggested data transmission via wireless network instead. Therefore Siemens provide a guided HF system RCoax cable with special antenna. The Profibus data stream has to by converted to Industrial Ethernet and then transmitted over this cable to the trolleys and vv. If cause there must be a converter to profibus an every trolley too . The major advantage is that such a transmission is not sensitive to dust, water or any other stuff like release agent or some thing like that. But the costs are much more higher as the rails with dedicated transmitters or rail boosters . https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll/21286952?func=ll&objId=21286952&objAction=csView&nodeid0=18689160&lang=en&siteid=csius&aktprim=0&extranet=standard&viewreg=WW&load=content The customer decided to clean the rails once every month. I am not happy with that . best regardsHela |
