LOGO! 24RCE - LCD vs Non-LCD?

I'm considering getting a LOGO! 24RCE, and don't know much about it. I see from the manual that the LCD can be used for programming. I also see that Siemens has LOGO!Soft Comfort software. It's not yet clear exactly what all I can do with the LCD version, vs the non-LCD version. I have some basic Ladder Programs to develop, but I'd also like to add some micro programming for things like creating detailed logs, sending out notifications. I'm coming from the Arduino development world, so a mix of Sketches and LDs are familiar to me. Right now just looking for help understanding the capabilities from an end-user perspective.

Of course, as described in the manual, you can also enter a program via the display in addition to the options already mentioned. In the early days of the Logo! that may have made sense. But today it is big enough to handle more complex tasks. However, it would be absolutely insane to do this via the display input. I don't know anyone who programs a Logo without Logosoft.

The Logo is a different world to an Arduino. You cannot do micro-programming with it. You are limited to the set of commands provided to you. It is also not intended as a log writer or anything similar. It is a stripped-down PLC designed for small or medium-sized tasks.

Although the standard use of LOGO! is suitable for my current needs, I do foresee some need for extended requirements, such as the logging and notifications, I mentioned. The LOGO! has presence on a network, so seems like there'd be some way to extend its use. I'm just personally too new to the platform to know what people have been able to accomplish, outside the standard uses.

Maybe there are other Siemens PLCs that are suitable for what I describe?

As your request and description are very general, no specific statement can be made. Depending on the type of notification, this is possible with a logo and typesetting devices. For extensive logging, you would have to send the data to an external system.

As you come from the Arduino world and are apparently looking for a mix between PLC and microcontroller, a Revolution-PI might be an interesting alternative.

But as already mentioned, that depends on the exact setup.

 Thanks Ella_68, I am an RPi user/fan, making the RevPi platform interesting to me. I'm consulting for a client that's planning 100's of installs of the selected PLC, so support is a primary concern, as is cost. I was shying away from Siemen's due to the MegaCorp mentality - I haven't been proven wrong yet, two examples: First, navigating the online download/purchase world with all of the site approvals required to see prices, get software is exhausting; Second, I called my appointed supplier's call center to get info/gain extended site access on Wednesday, haven't heard back.

You can now find the difficulties with support in many companies - unfortunately. And the licensing chaos can even be made worse. Just wait until the human in support is replaced by an AI...

I'm glad I work with Logo, despite some room for improvement. A software CD that is also a permanent license. Plus a version-independent upgrade option and a specialist forum. And a price that isn't overpriced when you compare it with similar products from other manufacturers.

As a beginner in LOGO! you may need the disgnostic more often. To change parameter is much simpler.

I also strongly recommend to buy the software and program LOGO! in FBD and not in Ladder.

Compared to an Ardorino, LOGO! is different. So I propose to DL the LOGO! Soft Comfort Demo and test. Please observe: No online features are supported by the demo version.
