Siemens has all of the variables in the SINUMERIK 840D sl NC variables list manual, now be aware this is for the Operate 4.95 system, if you have and older controller some variables might not be available or different.

You might also be interested in this manual, here on section 4.1 4.1 Flexible NC programming there are several examples in the use of said variables and available commands.

 and then?  I went through it all and no where does it explain where the Chuck data is stored or how to add a value onto the current Z to output a Z3 value.

 Thank you. I have also found that MD53240[0] and MD53240[1] are the machine var's for the chuck setting data for the main spindle. How do I find the ones for the secondary?

Hello.

You can do either of the ways you described.

To have most control I believe you're 1.B solution would be easiet to implement, in this case you can use R variables to use as the input data.

Please see section 4.2.3.17 RP: Arithmetic parameter

For work offset you have to look at section 4.2.3.12 FU: Settable Work Offset in the NC Var list manual.

 $P_UIFR is the Translation of a settable work offset.

In regards to the setting data from the Jaw section I could not find any information about this in the NCvar manual my self.

but I found this reference in some of my other documentation (please see attachment)

It says $MAS_SPINDLE_PARAMETER[] and $MAS_SPINDLE_CHUCK_TYPE should be the reference, but I can't test it since I do not have and active setup with as a lathe at this time.
