Using IP242A on system with S5-115U CPU 945 (7UA13) by FB183!!!

Najafabadipour Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	I try to understand an S5 program exists in an old machine. In this machine we have 2 IP242A (242-1AA32) counter card used for reading encoders. Refer to Siemens documentaries in the PLC program we should use FB178 and FB179 for programming of IP242A but in this system it uses FB183 for programming tasks. FB183 is the standard Siemens function block that use for IP242B (another counter module card). I try to simulate the system in other location but the system generates the error code 8 in the parameter F-NR of FB183 means "Module identifier is incorrect". I would be grateful if anybody can help me to find the reason. The other strange thing in this system is that it is using a 115U-CPU945 (7UA13). Siemens documentaries say that only IP242B can use with this type of CPU. If thisis correct then there should be a way for upgrading IP242A to work same as IP242B and we can use FB183 for programming of it. Is there anyway? Please help me to find the answer. Hi Najafabadipour, With the CPU945 you need other FB's as in another CPU (of the 115U-range or for other CPUs of the 135U/155U range), this because the CPU945 is a WORD-machine and the other CPUs of the 115U are BYTE-machines. The question is, where do you use the card now, or are you only try to understand the software? [:D] The best way is to check the Bibliotheknumber of the FB183 and then look in the Handbook of the IP242A what is documented there. [;)]

Najafabadipour Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Hi Late, The machine working now (it working here near 10 years) and is a painting machine that uses 2 IP242A cards for reading encoders. In the attachment file you can see one page of CPU945 documentation that refer to IP242B only. Also I have read the 6ES5 998–0KM21 Release 2 (Counter Module IP 242A With FB 178/179/180/ IP 242B With FB 183/184) completely. Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 5/11/2025 Posts: 2705 Rating: (321)	Hi Najafabadipour, What is the Bibliothek Number of the Functionblock FB183? The IP 242A can't be used with a CPU945, the IP 242B is a newer design for the IP 242A and can't be updated to a IP 242B.

Hi Mr B.Najafabadipour, If you do a directory of the blocks with STEP5 then you may see the Bibliothek number. You may print that in a file so that you don't have to write it down.

Late Platinum Expert Joined: 1/7/2006 Last visit: 5/11/2025 Posts: 2705 Rating: (321)	Hi Mr. Najafabadipour, With this number you can see that it is original a FB183 and that it is for use with a certain kind of PLC, the " 3 " is saying that, so it is not a renumbered FB. I have to search if they 3 is reserved for the CPU945. Can you place the S5 software on the forum or send the software to me in a private message so that when I have some spare time I could check the software.

The system includes some interbus I/O and one VIPA BG42 communication and some analog and digital I/O and 2 IP242A card. At this time and refer to our conversations I think the card should be an IP242B in an IP242A cover! What do you think? Also please help me to find a good document about S5 and S7 Bibliothek Numbers. Najafabadipour Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Congratulation! At lastwe found an IP242B with 2 separate EPROMs (D5 and D6) in and old cabinet! The IP242B hasen't any EPROM. When I place the EPROMs in the card and place it on the PLC with CPU 945 it didn't synchroned! but when I place these EPROMs on the IP242A it synchroned and worked! Congratulation! Somebody modify the EPROM program of an IP242B and use it for IP242A. So when we use modified EPROMs I can work with IP242A and CPU945 with FB183 (the library function use for IP242B). What is your idea about this story?

Najafabadipour Posts: 25 Rating: (0)	Hi again I'm encountered an strength problem with synchronization of CPU 945 and IP242A (with modified Eproms!) again! When I monitor the synchronous function in OB21 using test menu on Step5 software it is working correctly and it synchrons with the card but in other cases and when we are not monitoring the synchronous function it doesn't work properly.
