WinCC Unified PC going to Extend download instead of simulation

Hello,

I have recently installed TIA V16 with WinCC Unified on my host machine where previously I was using a virtual machine. Now I am unable to simulate the runtime where every time I try to load the simulation it brings the Extend download window up. Is there a setting I forgot to set?

Hi,

I've experienced same issue. Initially, I have installed the software on the host machine but I could never get the simulation working (was getting same Extended Download window popping all the time), tried to change all possible settings, PG/PE interface, certifications etc.

Then I installed it on the virtual machine and it all ran smoothly with no problems so I stopped investigating what was the actual cause of that behaving.

Just curious if anyone knows why is this happening though...

Do you know what went wrong? I have the same issue.

Hello, when I click the "Start Simulation" the "Extended download to device" window opens. Using other IP, set at 127.0.0.1, I continually have the error message "Failed to establish a connection to the device with address 127.0.0.1."

Are there any other suggestions as to what the issue could be?

Project contains a CPU1517TF-3 PN/DP, and MTP1500 Unified Comfort. TIA Portal V18.

I believe I have the correct software installed for simulation. This is my first Siemens project - I have been learning the roles which the different software play within the Siemens world. Attached is a snippet of all the software installed on my device.

This was helpful and new information for me. After investigating this information further, i'm still having the same issue. When I navigate to the webpage Localhost, I have the three options "WinCC Unified RT" which when I click, shows the message "Runtime not active Automatic reconnect in x seconds".

This, I'm assuming is because I have not been able to successfully download to the 127.0.0.1 address.

Also, the program "SIMATIC Runtime Manager" indicates a fault - "General error during processing".

Can you provide us with screenshots of yourrUnified Certificate manager and the error you get in Runtime Manager, or what do you get in Browser?

do you have first create a certificate authority with all the used certificates (for example for Webserver), then rerun the winCC Unified configuratino with the new Certificate. If you do not use Name resolution you can also use the "only use IP Address option"

Update. I installed all software on a virtual machine and everything worked as intended. The issue is likely to do with configurations/permissions on the domain based computer.

I encountered the same issue with TIA Portal V17 Update 8, where the Unified simulation would only bring up the extended download popup. After some digging, I found that this was a known issue with the V17 updates, and there’s a note about it on the download page. Installing the patch resolved the problem.

This is something to keep in mind if you rely on TIA Administrator to keep everything up to date—it may not highlight important notes that impact critical features!

I had the same problem (Extend download instead of simulation) with TiaPortal V18 Upd3 and WinCC Unified PC RT. After installing Upd3 for WinCC Unified PC RT the simulation worked without problems.
