Dear all , I have power counter with branded name (Camile Bauer) . this device has Modbus interface (RS485) , in the attachment you will find print screen of interface specification . I have CPU 315 2PN/DP . I read all threads regards OPEN MODBUS/TCP, NOW My question is... Can I connect between CPU315 2PN/DP and Power counter device? If yes , What's cable specification required for that? which port of CPU 315 2PN/DP should I use? thanks in advance AttachmentModbus.zip (430 Downloads) |

Hello ahmed; I am afraid I do not know the unit you wish to connect to, does the datasheet describe the comunication interfaces it supports? Since you are looking at Modbus/TCP on the PLC, I would expect a standard CAT 5 Ethernet cable, generally with a RJ-45 connector on the unit; switches will also be required if the distance exceeds 100 m. You should have a communications manual that will tell you how to setup the IP address on the unit, and the range (and contents) of the available registers for data exchange. Ifyour unitsupports Modbus RTU instead of Modbus/TCP, then you would need a serial CP 341 in the PLC, with a Modbus Master dongle, and RS-485 cable (shielded twisted-pair). Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier Edit: I just opened your attachment (sorry!) and it looks like your unit supports Modbus RTU over RS-485 cable. So you will need to go to the serial CP alternative. Here is the manual for the CP 341 as Modbus master: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/1220184 You will also need to purchase the Modbus Master dongle, part number : 6ES7870-1AA01-0YA0, Simatic S7, Modbus Master V3.1 The cable can be found from many manufacturers, such as Belden. We used the 3105A cable with no problem: http://www.belden.com/07markets/07_Industrial/07_Industrial_Network_Protocol_Solutions/EIA_485.cfm You will need to solder a SubD 9-pin connector to the CP 341 interface, abnd use the screw-contacts on the unit. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
